BEAST

BEAST, later known as Highlight, emerged onto the K-Pop scene on October 16, 2009, under the management of Cube Entertainment. The group's formation was notable for including several members who had faced previous setbacks in their careers, leading to a narrative of perseverance and second chances. Yoon Doojoon, initially considered for JYP Entertainment's 2PM and 2AM, became the group's leader. Lee Gikwang had previously debuted as a solo artist known as AJ, while Jang Hyunseung had been a final cut from BIGBANG's lineup. Yong Junhyung was a member of the short-lived group Xing. With the addition of Yang Yoseob and Son Dongwoon, BEAST was assembled, embodying a 'rags-to-riches' story that resonated with many fans. Musically, BEAST carved out a distinctive space within K-Pop through a blend of powerful dance tracks and emotionally resonant ballads. Their early hits, such as "Bad Girl" and "Shock," showcased a hard-hitting, synchronized performance style that set them apart. In 2016, Jang Hyunseung departed from the group to pursue solo activities. A significant turning point came when their contracts with Cube Entertainment expired. In a bold move, the remaining five members chose not to renew their contracts and established their own independent agency, Around Us Entertainment. However, legal battles over the group name "BEAST" prevented them from continuing under their original moniker. As individual members, each pursued varied and successful solo careers in music, acting, and entertainment. Yoon Doojoon and Lee Gikwang both have had successful acting careers, as well as active musical careers. Yang Yoseob and Son Dongwoon have also had very successful solo careers as well as acting roles in musicals. Yong Junhyung has continued to write and produce music for himself as well as other artists. Ultimately, BEAST rebranded as Highlight in 2017, marking a new chapter in their journey while maintaining the core essence of the group that fans had come to admire. As Highlight, they have continued to release music and perform, demonstrating their enduring popularity and commitment to their craft. Although the name changed, the legacy of BEAST remains an important part of K-Pop history, remembered for their resilience, musical innovation, and the profound impact they had on the industry.
