2NE1, a prominent South Korean girl group, was formed by YG Entertainment and debuted on May 6, 2009. Their emergence marked a significant moment in K-pop history, ushering in a new wave of girl groups that deviated from the prevailing image of demure femininity. Prior to their debut, the members honed their skills under the rigorous training system of YG Entertainment, known for its emphasis on artistry and individuality. The group initially gained attention through collaborations with labelmates, most notably with Big Bang on the song "Lollipop," which served as a promotional track showcasing their distinct style and charisma. This pre-debut exposure generated considerable anticipation for their official debut, setting the stage for their subsequent success.
Musically, 2NE1 carved out a unique niche characterized by their bold, genre-bending sound that fused elements of hip-hop, electronic, reggae, and pop. Their debut single, "Fire," immediately established their signature style with its fierce energy and unconventional sound. This was followed by a string of hits, including "I Don't Care," "Go Away," "Lonely," and "I Am the Best," each demonstrating their versatility and willingness to experiment with different musical styles. Their music often carried themes of independence, self-confidence, and empowerment, resonating with a generation of listeners seeking a more assertive and unconventional representation of women in music. 2NE1's artistic style extended beyond their music, encompassing their fashion and stage presence, both of which were characterized by edgy and avant-garde concepts.

They won numerous awards, including multiple Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), further cementing their position as industry leaders. However, despite their continued success, the group faced internal challenges and ultimately disbanded in November 2016, leaving a void in the K-pop scene.
