5th-Gen Girl Groups: Debut Dates and Agencies Compared
Compare six girl groups by debut milestone and launch agency, including why BABYMONSTER has two dates in public timelines.
“Fifth generation” groups do not all arrive through the same route. Some debut through an established label, some through a smaller company, and some after a televised competition. Comparing debut milestones and launch agencies makes those differences visible before you even press play.
This table covers the six groups in our fifth-generation listening guide. It is a selected comparison, not a complete list or an official definition of the generation. Agencies are identified at debut; the table does not claim to track every current contract or lineup.
Compare the debut milestones
| Group | Debut milestone | Agency at debut | What the date means |
|---|---|---|---|
| KISS OF LIFE | July 5, 2023 | S2 Entertainment | Self-titled debut EP |
| BABYMONSTER | November 27, 2023 / April 1, 2024 | YG Entertainment | First single / formal seven-member debut |
| ILLIT | March 25, 2024 | BELIFT LAB | SUPER REAL ME |
| MEOVV | September 6, 2024 | THEBLACKLABEL | Debut single MEOW |
| izna | November 25, 2024 | WAKEONE | Debut EP N/a |
| Hearts2Hearts | February 24, 2025 | SM Entertainment | Debut single The Chase |
Why BABYMONSTER has two dates
“Batter Up” arrived on November 27, 2023 with six participating members. The seven-member BABYMONS7ER release followed on April 1, 2024; YG's official Japanese profile describes that later milestone as the formal debut. A timeline that shows only one date can therefore appear to contradict another without either reader understanding the underlying definition.
When comparing debut years, decide which milestone you mean: first music release or the company's formal full-lineup debut. Keep that definition visible. Here, both are retained so the comparison does not erase the earlier release.
Agency name and producer connection are different
ILLIT debuted through BELIFT LAB, within the wider HYBE network. MEOVV debuted through THEBLACKLABEL. izna's official WAKEONE profile describes its formation through I-LAND 2, a collaboration involving Mnet and THEBLACKLABEL. A production connection does not make those two groups labelmates.
This is where a simple “same company” label becomes misleading. Separate the managing label, the wider corporate network, and the producers involved in a show or recording. Those relationships answer different questions. Our HYBE label guide walks through the distinction using specific examples.
Use dates to ask better questions
KISS OF LIFE offers a 2023 starting point outside the largest agency networks. The 2024 entries let you compare different launch routes within a similar period. Hearts2Hearts adds a 2025 example from SM. None of these dates, by itself, tells you which group is more experienced, more successful, or musically similar to another.
For a fair listening comparison, choose the debut release from each group first. Then choose a later release from the same act. That separates differences between artists from changes that happened as each catalog developed.
Choose two profiles to explore next
Compare ILLIT and BABYMONSTER for two different major-network launches, or MEOVV and izna to examine why a producer connection differs from shared management. For musical entry points, return to the six-group listening guide.
